薛校監稱：「香港的課餘補習是一門不可輕看的行業。」
自1997年香港回歸中華人民共和國以來，雙語教育的需求，知識水平的提升，以及進軍內地市場的展望，相繼應運而生。維森補習學校藉此千載難逢的機會而於2000年創立。

全人發展
許多家長僅僅依靠並極度期望補習機構改善子女的學業表現，卻忽略他們自己對子女的責任。再者，家長差不多把補習機構視作日間託管，因為他們誤以為只要他們的子女投放更多時間在補習機構，便自然保證考獲更理想的成績。但此情況會導致家庭不和，對學生的紀律、態度和品格造成反效果。有見及此，維森設法逐一處理好此事。
薛校監補稱：「市面上許多補習機構過分強調學生所考獲的成績，以及只顧謀取盈利。然而，我們效法正統學校的營運模式，著重德育的教誨和人際技巧的訓練；並且與家長緊密溝通，幫助他們更瞭解子女，從而鞏固親子關係。除學業以外，我們更授予學生歸屬感，也聘用性格與思考類型學家駐校，並定期向家長匯報其子女最新的學習進度並建議適合其子女的學業發展。」
經營手法
維森在五個主點上展現其核心價值：
首先是安全衛生。校方十分注重學生個人和校舍環境的安全衛生，因而採取多項措施，防止傳染病在校舍內傳播。
其次，校方提供學能格評(AAA)，評估學生的學業程度和一般智力，以便為學生制訂適切的課程，配合教學進度和方法。
第三，校方提供全腦思考模式評估(HTPA)，全面評估學生的學習取向，協助他們選科升學和就業。
第四，校方採用思卡遊戲，激活學生的觀察力和專注力，使他們寓學習於遊戲中。
最後，校方實施一套公平而嚴謹的賞罰制度，鼓勵學生積極學習，改善其行為舉止。
不斷革新、開創未來
維森為到在學業上需要額外照顧的學生提供特惠計劃。假如學生的學業表現遠低於水平或考試的平均成績不合格，校方會免費贈課數小時或調減學費，讓學生能夠以較低廉的學費得到更多支援。
未來的發展，校方計劃從事個人上門補習，也會開拓24小時自助溫書服務，為需要密集研讀和特別照顧的學生提供支援。此外，校方也將計劃在其他地區開設分校，並為學生提供專車接送服務。

To Bring Out the Best
After-school tutoring in Hong Kong is serious business, as told by DAVID SIT.
With Hong Kong’s restoration to the People’s Republic of China in 1997, an increasing demand for bilingual education, reinforcement of knowledge, and a great prospect for tapping into the Mainland market was created. Wai Sum Tutorial School was founded in 2000 in response to such golden opportunities.
Hong Kong’s economy and population have grown at a fastpace in the last twenty years. Extended work hours in the busy city has left many with less time to attend to their children, particularly those who may need help with schoolwork. The demand for tutorial services has risen as a result of this phenomenon. In this industry of daunting challenges and shifts, Wai Sum is considered a pioneer and role model.
“We hold regular classes every day for students at primary and secondary level to assist them in finishing homework, revising dictations, and deepening knowledge of subject matter through comprehensive exercises,” says School Supervisor David Sit. “We also have intensive sessions (one tutor to two students, maximum) to prepare for exams in major subjects like Chinese, English and maths, as well as sciences and liberal studies.”
Holistic Development
Many parents have begun to rely solely on tutorial centres to enhance their children’s academic performance with extreme expectations, while disregarding their own filial responsibilities. The misconception that more time students spend in tutorial schools automatically guarantees better results has children at afterschool programs for too many hours, now akin to daycare. This also creates a rift in the family, causing adverse effects on students’ discipline, attitudes, and character. Wai Sum seeks to address this concern.
“We closely resemble a formal schoolin operation,” says Sit. “Most tutorial centres overemphasize test scores, and focus on profit. However, our school edifies moral education and interpersonal skills, to helps parents understand their children more and reinforce their relationships, and present students with a sense of belonging, besides academics. We also appoint counselors to update and advise parents on their children’s progress and development.”
Tools of the Trade
Wai Sum offers value in five key aspects.
“Foremost is safety and hygiene. A genuine attention should be paid to personal and environmental cleanliness. We have adopted several measures to prevent contagious diseases from spreading,"says Sit.
“Secondly, there is the Academic Abilities Assessment (3A). It is designed to help determine students’ academic and intellectual abilities, assisting us in formulating the appropriate curricula and tailor the pace and style of tutoring to match.
“Next is Holistic Thinking Pattern Assessment (HTPA), a comprehensive gauge of qualities that helps students in choosing the appropriate academic stream and career path, and gain admission for higher education.
“Fourth; we make use of See Cards, a fun game and teaching tool. It gives them a terrific boost in observation skills and concentration.
“Lastly, we have in place a fair and meticulous system of rewards and penalties, recognized to effectively encourage students to study and improve demeanor.”
Seek to Improve
Wai Sum provides privileged plans for students who require extra academic care. If a student’s academic performance has been far below an acceptable standard, indicated by below average test scores, it gives the student free additional tutoring hours or offers fee reductions, to give students more support with less cost.
The school plans to engage in individual home tutoring, as well as operate 24-hour weekends to accommodate the schedules of those who need intensive study and special care in the near future. New branches in more districts with shuttle services to students’ homes are in the works.
